First Responder Community Legacy Scholarship Program

Investing in the next generation. Honoring those who serve.

We’re proud to introduce a scholarship program that reflects our deep commitment to the first responder communities we serve, and the relationships that have shaped who we are as an organization.

Each scholarship will be named in honor of first responder partners and supporters who have stood alongside the credit union over the years, with honorees to be announced in the coming months.

This year BFCU will be awarding a total of six scholarships - 2 College Undergraduate Awards for $3,500 each; 2 High School Awards for $2,500 each; and 2 Middle School Awards for $2,000 each.

Applicants must submit a completed application along with an original essay of at least 500 words responding to the prompt: “What First Responders Mean to Me.”

This is an opportunity to honor the service, sacrifice, and impact of first responders through your own perspective and experience. Essays will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee based on authenticity, thoughtfulness, and overall merit.

One submission per applicant.

All materials must be received by Friday, May 29, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.
