Boston Firefighters Credit Union recently awarded their 2025 scholarships to two college students and two high school students. These outstanding recipients were chosen for their essay submissions, responding to the prompt, ‘What do first responders mean to me?’

BFCU received nearly 200 deeply personal submissions that detailed experiences of what it means to grow up as part of a first responder family or as a first responder themselves. Selecting the winners was not an easy process as each applicant clearly understood the gravity and magnitude of the role first responders play in society, while also providing intimate details about the most impactful moments that shaped that understanding.

BFCU awarded a total of $16,000 in scholarships to the following exceptional students:

Shawn Mirville – American International College

Jordan Atkinson – Georgetown University    

High School Winners      

Noah Holt – Roxbury Latin School

Finn Flaherty – Boston College High School
